Jeff: May I remind you that your never going to see the volumes of these newer diesels with modern 3 point hitch, retired and in as great condition as the pre 1962 models. Therein lies the reason, first those old gassers soon became too costly and inefficient for modern day farming. Diesel power was the future. Secondly, tractors equiped with 3 point hitch are still as functional on the modern day farm as any tractor being built new in 2005. For those two reasons plus the capital cost of new equipment, many of these 60s, 70s and 80s diesels will hit the 30,000 hour mark, something unheard of 40 to 50 years ago. As for the cabs you speak of with doors off, they were not that well built in the beginning. Many farmers found themselves rebuilding these cabs at little more than 10,000 hours. Just by design alone they were impossible to keep tight. In a lot of cases definately not abuse or neglect, however I will agree that factor can be in there.
