Previous posters pretty well covered it. Take the hood off, yank around on the front section of the steering shaft to check for slop. Take it for a drive and watch that portion of the shaft. If it moves, try to determine which WAY it moves. Forward-back motion will mean different wear than oscillating rotary motion. If the universal and adjacent bushing are tight, then the little ball bearing at the very front of the steering shaft (behind cast nut on the top of the front bolster) is a good suspect. Yank on every part of the steering linkage you can reach. If it can wiggle, it will wobble.
