Pull starting a 650 in diesel mode won’t cause any damage. And if it runs on OK on diesel it means the engine is basically sound.

The “no start” on gas is most likely an ignition or carb problem – either of which is relatively easily fixed. Or as Dave suggests below, problem could also be a changeover linkage adjustment or stuck starting valves - though the latter is highly unlikely.

If the price is reasonable I"d go for it!
