Any 361 or 407 that needs ether is getting tired. Give it a full overhaul and have the pump and injectors rebuilt, all you should need then is a couple hours with the tank heater plugged in when it gets down around freezing. Stanadyne is the company that builds Roosa-Master pumps these days, same thing. 30 series Deeres start hard for other reasons, mainly because some of the engines weren"t built to exact torerances. The head gasket kits from Deere include a thinner head gasket to help get the compression up.
