The wire goes form the mag coil to the inside of the bolt for the kill swith. It grounds the coil via the points to help produce the spark. Since it had an external coil, the internal one is probalby bad. About $40 or so for H4 magneto. The link below will take you to a wireing website. It is for H and M, but elecrically it is the same as A
