Im in MN & most of these tractors sit out side, these tractors were used to pick corn, Cultivate, disk, for snow removel. You name it-It was used for all kind's of things. For those of you that say there good brakes & nothing wrong with them, You must keep the tractor in the shed all the time. Every farmer around here that has a SM or a tractor with that kind of brakes has truble with them. I have older JD's & they work any time, No problem at all with them. I Have heard of machining of the serface, The anti seaze sounds good, I used sylicone spray on the ball mecanizem, I think the glazing is the most important thing. Even thought of sand blasting the disks a litle. Then do the surface of the metal parts. I guese when you guys say you have to maintain them thats fine but what would you do if you had a car that had brakes like these? Mantanice is fine but not this mutch. JD you fix when the dont work & then they last 10 years. This type of brake was used on lots of combines & tractors & all are very high maintainence. You have some good ideas. I have a SM with out a loader thats not runing write now I will try some of these things on it. If it all works ill stop at the bottom of the hill a say HI to you! If not i will just wave on the way by.
