Things I tell people to look for are good optical
zoom, what size memory card comes with it,
type of battery's, off the shelf or proprietary
(makes a diiference if you get low on juice and
can just run to the store).

You need to decide how much you want to
spend and the narrow your choices down.

You will end up buying extra memory cards
and battery's no matter what.
