Don't use teflon tape. There's too much of a chance of a sliver of it being cut off by the threads & ending up loose inside the fitting. Don't remember where I heard it, but understand some jurisdictions prohibit the use of teflon tape on residential gas plumbing for that very reason. On top of that, I split a fitting one time because the teflon tape was so slippery I couldn't tell when it was tight enough & just kept turning it until the tapered threads wedged the fitting apart.
