Carl: I don't remember the exact size, but it should be almost a perfect rectangle looking at it from bottom end. It should also nicely fill the notch in one of the rails. What happens here is the end of shift lever gets egg shaped and will slip out of notch in rail before tractor is completely out of gear. I always build it up by welding so it is oversize, then grind until it shifts smoothly. This will require setting it in place several times to try it until right. The rectangle I described should be very slightly rounded on the corners. I don't do welding myself, thus had to rely on a welding shop to build it up. I did several of these over the years. We experimented with different rods even used bronze on a couple. I don't know as I ever determined which was best. There are a lot of factors to consider, for example a loader tractor will suffer a lot more wear than one that does nothing but pulling implements all day and maybe only shifting gears half dozen times.
