All "commercial" vehicles must have DOT inspection and have a CDL to operate. The only way farm plates apply across state lines is if you are going to a farm in which you own. Farm plates have a radious of 75 miles or 7500 miles a year. If you are going have a trailor, I get the class A CDL so there are no misshaps with the troopers. With commercial plates, the plates are more expensive and make sure that when you register the truck the cab card has all the states you wish to go in. Further more, you then have to pay a $500 heavy use tax every July and buy a IFTA (interstate federal tax ) sticker ($30) and keep track of all miles and $ of fuel in every state you go. Your a big rig now so practice bending over. I did it for years so if you need help, call.
