That short line is the supply (or "pump") line for the Christmas tree valve. By pulling back and latching the Liftall handle on the hydraulic reservoir, pump pressure is directed thru the short hose to the inlet port on the Christmas tree valve. Ordinarily there will be two lines running from the backside the Christmas tree and running to hydraulic couplings at the rear of the tractor. Appears the lower one has been plugged off on yours. --- Nice job on your 1st photo post!
