I'm not sure IH had any method at all, but: F= Farmall for sure- there is documentation of that. B- Probably the the larger, straightline chassis or possibly wheelbase. H had the same wheelbase as the M to share implements, they do share the second letter. K= size. They wouldn't have called the tractor a K, since that's how they previously had designated Kerosene in some early models.
