I haven't had any problems in the past with removing the pilot Bearing from the main shaft, but your situation may mean a new direction.. if you cannot pull the bearing off, you can remove the fuel tank and belt pulley assy, and go at it from the top.. Are you just replacing the pilot bearing?? If so, I would suggest that you also replace the two bearings in the bearing retainer and the bearing spacer.. This will make that new pilot bearing last quite a bit longer, because the input shaft won't be allowed to flex.. Good luck
