I once bent a valve push rod on my 656D. You wouldn't believe how severe those can knock. As I recall it was far worse standing in front of tractor hearing through the rad. The young lad running tractor on the haybine when this happened, figured the engine was going to fly apart before he could shut it down. Push rod and a gasket are quite a cheap fix, compared to what you are thinking.
