I used to have that problem with my Super C, and I still have it with my AC WD. It only happens when its cold out and gas runs out of the carb but the plugs are bone dry. Once it starts its fine. I tried carb rebuilds and tuneups with no change. When I got desperate, one of the things I would do is popp the plugs and sqiurt a shot of starting fluid in each cylinder. I don't like to do that too much. I had the C rebuilt and converted it to 12V, and now it starts like a bear. I had the WD rebuilt and its still 6V and it still does it. Both tractors were due for an overhaul and at first I suspected low compression. A leak or bad gasket in the manifold would also cause this, not enough suction to vaporize gas and pull it up to the cylinders. I'm sure the 12V turning the C over fast even when its cold is the major factor in its working good now. With the WD, I'm wondering if the 6V turning it over too slow when its cold as well as thick oil in the air cleaner is just resulting in insufficient air flow. I don't use the WD in the winter, so I haven't been too aggressive in addressing the problem. The difference in temp is amazing: at 45 deg, it starts right up, at 30 deg, it can crank all day and nothing. I'd love to see other opinions or experience on this.

It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer. It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership,
