All Good things to check out.My similar I-H 140 problem was the Starter cast housing where the starter drive gear shaft comes out(Just below the gear)was worn just enough to allow the shaft to rest at different spots ea. time it stopped winding. I'm assuming if it rested to the outside; When I'd attempt to start it the teeth would clash & it seemed as if the Battery was too weak not allowing the tractor to "turn over". After going through the process of Recharging the Battery(Which inadvertently wasn't necessary) I'd Attempt to start it, & invariably the shaft would be resting in the center of that worn housing & you guessed it , It would start perfectly. It took me 1 1/2 yrs. to finally pull that, what was a supposedly rebuilt starter 2 yrs. previous, to physically look & locate that problem. However, I previously had the Volt. Reg/ Gen. Matched up, Bought a new Battery & well, Basically the" Whole Nine Yrds." & many useless $$$ later before I got smart. Just having a Starter repaired, I Guess, doesn't mean they rebuild it. Well, I bored out the worn hole, resleeved it (Pressed in a Bronze bushing) Reassembled & Re- installed the Starter. Tried it, & it's been Absolutely starting perfectly the last 2 yrs. From the time I pulled the Starter, repaired it,reinstalled it including finding the problem, it took just about 1 Hr. I hope this explanation wasn't too "cloudy" Good Luck. Tim
