Hurst: One principle I've learned in my many years around tractors and equipment is you try the most economical and easy anyalsis first. You do as I suggested in my last post, then you tell me what you think. Certainly, going down hill in 4th gear is exactly where this could happen. That gear shift lever is top heavy, and if detent balls are gone, sure it can flop ahead. Those detent balls are in that top cover thus a very easy fix. I might also add if this has been going on for some time you may well have gear damage. Once you take that top cover off you can see the gears, again you tell me what you see.
