Mike: Actually we had much better driving than you might think. Auction was down to about 35 items at 1:30 pm. Sandy was driving the F-150 with about 1/2 ton of bagged topsoil in back and of course he and Duncan heading for Toronto. Marg. and I on the other hand heading this way with the Buick, were driving right into the storm. We left right then, while Sandy and Duncan stayed to the end. We drove in slush most of the way west on No.7, at Elginfield it improved, 90 kph from there down Petty Drive. Got to 81 and decided to duck down to supermarket in Strathroy. We had driven bare roads since Elginfield. That 1/2 hour we were in the store it must have snowed 3". Wet and packed and slipery. Sure glad we missed that and it was only 8 miles back to Cuddy Drive. We were home by 4:15pm. Sandy phoned, about 15 min. later and they had driven in slush to Kitchener, then it rained all the way to Toronto. If Marg. and I had waited even another 1/2 hour it wouldn't have been much of a fun drive. I had too much experience with No.7 highway that winter I hauled logs to treat that drive lightly. Remembered what that old gentleman told me at the Middlesex Plowing Match in Lucan summer of 2003. He said, "No. 7 highway was built along the edge of a snowbank one July." I didn't argue.
