Like Gene, I remove mine from the left side. You need to slide the entire battery box out. A couple of years ago when I put my new battery box it it just wanted to go in from the left. Make sure that you clean the ends to both cables and also where the ground cable fastens to the frame. For the few dollars involved I would replace the battery cables. I had one that looked ok until you looked under the insulation. As Hugh MacKay usually says get 0 or 1 gauge battery cables. I found 1 gauge at a local auto parts store. It spins it over like a top on 6v.
