First, if the "M" wide front the man has found is the later "Super" style with the tie rods in back, the price is fair. If it is the older "M" style with tie rods in front, the price is a little on the high side, but it may have the setback plate. To answer your question, the cast center wide front is older. They were used on the later F20's and the early H's and M's.
