On my 1947 MD I had a similiar problem. There is alot of short pieces that make up the throttle linkage, and all of the holes where egged out some which made it sloppy. and I could not get full throttle, actually it was just about half with the old setup. I have replaced all of the short pieces with one solid rod from a homemade throttle lever directly to the injection pump. If you cannot take off in 5th gear you need an overhaul really bad. You should be able to to get going on a flat surface even if your motor is not in the best of shape. Or at least mine would before I rebuilt the motor. Brad
