Broken Pressure Plate in a 2+2

Had a new one for me this week, a 3588 came in for a clutch that wouldn't release so I assumed that it was the release bearing or the fingers on the PPA. When I split it, it looked like it was a week old so I checked the linkage and that was ok. When I removed the clutch and pressure plate I found the cast plate of the pressure plate was broke into 2 seperate pieces. One of the other mechanics said that he seen one break a long time ago in an 806 and it looked like a lock washer for the way it broke. Has anyone else come across this oddity?
