From what I have learned it would appear that the older tractors often had the non steel pulleys. I know of several W and Farmall tractors that were purchased new. With out exception, the Super models had the steel pulley, while the older letter series had the non steel. The non steel was thought to transmit power better. I know that my Father transferred the pulley from his W-6 to his SW6 when he traded tractors. the SW-6 coming with a steel pulley. Two roads over, a SW-6 was sold with a steel pulley and was used to fill silo until the mid 70s with a belt driven blower. Silo got filled. Maybe user preference. Possibly some one with experience can provide a more accurate answer.QR.
