Sounds like they didn't really do you any favors. It's real difficult to say. Lots of variables.
Some shops, it just don't pay to supply parts. Seems like maybe $12 a rod would be fair. Did they do any other work on the rods? You might try to get phone quotes on jobs like this to see waht gives, then dicker with your shop or find another shop.
