No, that's not what he's talking about. There's no slot there, and it doesn't "pivot in and out." The distributor is held by two clamps IIRC, and it rotates around its center. What he's probably talking about is either the distributor-drive hydraulic pump, or the dummy spacer/shaft that otherwise fits in between the front cover and the distributor. One of the bolt holes is a slot for some reason. Rest assured, the distributor spacer or hydraulic pump only fits in there in one position. At least, that's my experience with them.
