The ideas below are very good first efforts. If things seem to be the same, pull the dist cap and rotor, grab the dist shaft and move it in all directions (except in and out) if you can detect movement (play in the bearings, it needs to be rebuilt. It is common (recient thread on here ) for the shaft box to be ignored for life, then the shaft life ends. Longer bushings contacting the shaft in new unworn areas can fix even a worn system. Same exact symptoms as described. It causes radicall dwell changes and timing irregularity as the advance mechanism rotates the dist cam. Good hunting, JimN
