Allen. I"ve made one out of two more times than I care to remember. I don"t see any problem with taking the front portion that you know to be good, and joining it to a good used rear end. Tell the guy to pull the rear end out of the hydro and pull the top cover. (15 minutes with an air wrench) Then take a look and see what kind of shape it"s in. The cost of a cover gasket is cheap insurance. If it looks ok, then pull yours apart and make the switch. If it doesn"t look to good, you can always repair yours.
