Allan, there's a little more to it than just bolting up the hydro rear end. The hydro range transmission will not have the reverse idler shaft in it, so you'd have to tear the whole thing apart to install it. Your red shop guy should know that. Now, as far as the noise in the rear end, could be normal. Some are just plain louder than others. Could be ring gear and pinion. Could be final drives. The reason your tractor dosen't stay in park is because it's got the original style solid park lock linkage. With this style, the lever will not move fully down into the park position if the park pawl is touching the top of a reverse driven gear tooth. To make the lever go all the way into park, you would need to let the tractor roll just enough to let the pawl drop between two teeth. Most guys don't understand that and try to force the lever all the way down, bending the linkage, which causes the problem you are having. Most 06-66 series have been converted to the 86 series style spring loaded park pawl, or the aftermarket style spring loaded linkage. Either works good and are easy to install. As for the leak in your hitch, it's just a matter of following the troubleshooting steps in the service manual. I'd say that at this point, with that much money into the tractor, you'd be best off doing a little exploritory surgery on the range transmission. The park lock and the hitch will be fairly cheap to fix.

They were horrified (we lived by the railroad), my mother thought the worst: "He’s been run over by a train, he’s gone forever!" Where did they find me? Perched up on the seat of the tractor. I’d probably plowed about 3000 acres (in my head anyway) by the time they found me. This is where my love for tractors started and has only gotten worse in my tender 50 yrs on this “green planet”. I’m par
