One thing to be sure that you have .004 skirt to wall clearance and that means to FIT EACH PISTON TO THE HOLE THAT IT IS GOING INTO My self i don"t get to concerned on the end gap i worry more about the skirt to wall SO if you do not have a good set of outside Mic"s and a set of inside mic"s and a bore gause to check for any wrinkels SON ya got a problem . And also a ridged hone to make it wright as the quality of the parts has gone into the dumpster it is now like building a racing engine to get things to fit . Now you can ribbon fit the pistons with a .004 long feeler gauge and a spring scale but they are hard to come by. Yea i know the book calls for .0035-.0045 but this is how i do it not to tight and not to loose . Also did you check the cam??? the last three that i did i had to send the cam out to be rebuilt and install new cam fallowers.
