I would have to say that it is posibale that you have the lower counter shaft not assembaled correctly as the constant mesh gear should be real close to the case in the ft. and 5th should go on the input almost to the bottom of the cut , now they do not move as much as the rest of the gears do but it should go onmore the and 1/8 inch , now like mag man it has been a couple moons ago since i was in one but it should go on 1/4 to about a 1/2 inch now it will be close to the bottom gear but should not touch. So go back thru it and double check as ya got something screwed up.
