Andrew, if its a "one wire" alternator all bets are off and DISREGARD all I said above. On a true "one wire" alternator its big main output stud wires to the load (NOT to battery/starter) side of the ammeter with 10 gauge wire. There would be NO 10 ohm resistor in the output of a one wire alternator (if thats what the Hitachi is???). Its most likey a Negative ground alternator, so be sure you changed the battery to Negative ground. If so the ammeter leads need to be reversed or else it will read bass ackwards plus the coil leads need reversed so - goes to the distributor and + receives voltage from the switch. I have no idea how that Mitsubishi would wire if its OTHER THEN a one wire alternator so dont bet your life on what I just posted. The 10 ohm resistor is used in the excitation circuit on the GM 10 SI alternators but NOT on one wire alternators, they are internally self excited. John T
