I think all there is, is a sliding collar that joins the transmission shaft to the PTO output shaft. The collar may be stripped out, the teeth on the shaft(s) may be worn off, or the linkage that slides the collar is worn out.

You'll have to pull it apart, figure out what's wrong, and fix it, because there's really no one thing that breaks or goes wrong with these. They're simple, robust designs, meant to last a long time.
