The coil on my M burnt out this weekend. I figured it out pretty quickly and ordered a new one already. My question though is this. I have a 12 volt system on this tractor. The coil I bought says it's a 12 volt coil for use without a resistor? I'm guessing they mean you don't have to use a resistor to step the volts down to 6 volts for this coil since it's 12 volt. But do you need a ballast resistor? In the car world, when you had a 12 volt coil you wired it so you got a full 12 volts while cranking and then once started you went through the ballast resistor for some lower voltage to run on. If you ran constantly on 12 volts the coil would burn out? I think that's what happened. Or are these tractor coils meant to have constant 12 volts?

Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
