The problem with the Ute's steering design is that it uses 2 pitman arms, one swings in one direction while the other goes the opposite.A motor vehicle (car/truck) uses one pitman arm that swings left/right.To make that work, the steering box would need to lay sideways and the steering wheel would be out to the side of the dash panel(you would need to drive it side saddle). Then you would need a tie rod that would connect both front wheels together so you only would need to steer one side.Problem is,the low slung axle and bolsters block any access there would be for such cross linkage. This is America....home of the inventor...why someone has yet to tool up a replacement/upgraded steering box is well beyond me..... I guarantee....if I ever hit the PowerBall jackpot,Ute Steering box production would be high on my to-do list.
