Putter, Dad bought an IH 574 diesel utility with horizontal exhaust new in 1979. It had the 2250 mount-o-matic loader on it too. We ran that tractor for everything, loader work, haying, even pulled a 6 row planter with it for awhile. It was overworked and hate to admit it but probably a little under maintained. It's got more than enough power, good on fuel, was extremely reliable and will get around in some tight places. The only thing we ever did was a water pump and one clutch. We ran that thing to about 5800 hours. About a year and a half ago it was showing that we didn't have much oil pressure when the motor got hot and was developing a small leak in the radiator. Dad traded it for a brand new JD 5320 and quick tach loader. I think he got $6800 on trade. That tractor didn't owe us a dime for all the work it did! Dad really likes the new Deere, and it pains me to say this (as I like the green stuff too) but he still complains that the 574 was smoother running and quieter. Make sure you weight up the back end for loader work, or it won't do too much, for lack of traction. Let me know how it turns out, as I've got a soft spot in my heart for those old 574's. DJL
