Could have been something different with our situation but on the farm in Kansas our main tractor was a Farmall M which Dad put all the power stuff in available in the early 60's for around 55hp as I recall. In our ground it would pull 3-16's in third, as I recall. It was a long time ago. However, on the third day third gear would go out on it. Did that twice before we decided to be satisfied pulling in 2nd. Dad did engine and transmission work all his years and was real good but maybe he missed something about it. Seems there would be limits to what it could take though.
