If it's running, it's close. Make a mark on the distributor and the engine housing (use masking tape if it's a clean repaint, otherwise chalk) so you have a starting point.

While the tractor is running, loosen the bolts that hold down the distributor a little bit, until you can move turn the distributor with some effort. Move it a little bit at a time until it smooths out. Test by revving the engine a few times. If it sputters or sags, then you don't have it right. Try again.
