Ludwig, You're absolutely correct!. The seal between the bowl and the housing has to be there as well in order to tighten the bowl up via the little thumb dealy at the bottom of the bowl bail. I made a new gasket for mine out of some raw gasket material from NAPA and it works fine. The other two seals I mentioned in the post above seal off their respective areas. The packing nut can be tightened enough to possibly stop the shut off valve from leaking/dripping but if you get it too tight you won't be able to shut off/on the gas. The seal on the inner end of the shut off valve just keeps gas from entering the bowl from the tank when the fuel is shut off.//FB

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
