Hmmmm..... I tell my wife that tractors are a good investment. It's not like spending money on golf or booze....right? AND of course, I can ALWAYS get my money back if I need to right? OKAY.... then make THIS math work. Nice, fairly straight Farmall '40 H $525 New manifold $125 Misc wires, ignition parts, plugs,etc $ 67 Belt pulley $ 25 Oil, filter, new antifreeze $ 40 Primer paint for odd pieces $ 20 PTO shield $ 25 Misc brgs for gov, h20 pump, etc $ 60 Carb kit $ 26 seat components, battery box, etc $250 New name plate for nose $ 15 New grill insert $ 20 Replacement for welded cast hub $ 15 Crank turned .020 under $135 Head rebuilt $260 Complete engine kit and new fenders, gauges, valve train, decals, etc $1048 New sediment bowl $ 26 Misc nuts and bolts $ 10 New thermostat $ 24 Starting tank $ 10 Gasoline on parts trips $ 50 Misc Silicone, JB weld, odd items, $ 25 YET to be bought:
New tires and tubes More primer Paint Hardener Thinner Someone please add that up... I don't have the nerve..... AND WHEN MY WIFE ADDS THE ABOVE COLUMN: Projected attorney's fee's $10,000 half the value of my house $50,000 half my pension $40,000 annually and of course....half the value of the above tractor..... Yes Dear, it is a GOOD investment.......

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
