Also it is a good idea to have the garden hose turned on and ready for use. If that acid ends up where you don't want it, immediately flush it with water from the hose. Other than that, the muriatic acid will give excellent results, much better than the scrap metal in the tank and rattle it around for awhile. The Farmall H and M gas tanks have a baffle in them, this baffle pretty much prevents any kind of hardware from getting behind it, thus you still have a large portion of the tank which did not get cleaned, and if any of the hardware did get behind the baffle, you may not be able to get it out. The acid is an excellent method. It is the method that I use.
