To add complexity to a interesting topic, not all magnets are created equal. Iron (Fe) based magnets are generally able to be recharged by external pulses of magnetism (generator field poles are a ready example, when "polarized"). Other magnets are much less "chargable". These include AlNiCo (Aluminum, Nickel, Cobalt), and Rare Earth Magnets (Samarium, Cobalt, and other exotic metals and compounds). These cannot be charged at all, but neither will they degrade (in human lifetimes). Maybe MagMan can tell us what is in Magnetos, and if they can be charged. JimN
