Well if the fan belt is tight and you have a full cooling system it shouldn't over heat. I'd spray out the radiator and also flush the cooling system. I'd drain it, the refill with vinagar and run it till hot. Let it cool and then back flush it with a garden hose. I made an adaptor that goes in to the block drain. Turn on the water and walk away for a couple hours with the cap off and let it do its thing. The refill and see if that helps. Your cooling system is probably full of rust and lime.
