John, I've been in your shoes. What some of these other guys are suggesting is probably the right way to do it, but if you don't have access to a large hydraulic press then their way won't work, and you can't place a block of wood on top of the piston and start pounding because you don't want the piston to go down. You already have holes in the top of the piston, so you somehow need to finish splitting the piston skirt. DO NOT USE a hammer and chisel to do this, you run the risk of breaking the actual cylinder wall, and if that happens you are looking at a machine shop repair. Your best option is to use a hacksaw blade, drop it down through the top of the piston, and begin working your way over to one side. It will take some time, but you should be able to fairly easily cut through the aluminum. You will not be able to cut through the rings, but once you have them exposed, you should be able to break them. Once that is accomplished, the stress should be off the piston, and you should be able to start wiggling it. PLEASE, do not drive anything down between the piston and sleeve. Don't ask how I know this.

It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro
