Dick: I doubt if the steering box gear and worm are the problem. Most likely the problem is in the vertical shaft within the box. That shaft was changed around 1951, and I understand the older ones had a square taper shaft where steering control arm goes on. I've never had one of the early model but I expect the gear inside the box is keyed with a woodruff key. The later model Super A plus all 100, 130, and 140 have a round tapered shaft with woodruff keys on both gear and steering control arm. Those keys can give a lot of free travel on your steering wheel. Also loosenes of the nut that holds steering arm can cause this. This can be fixed with new keys, and I understand in the case of the square tapered shaft, shim stock will work. You may find once you get it apart, you have damaged keyways. If so come back, I as well as others on this site have fixed those. I've seen several solutions, all good in my opinion. You get to that point and we wont see you stuck. The worm and gear when you can find them are close to $500. I've had 6 of thes tractors in my lifetime and I've yet to see a non usuable worm and gear.
