You can connect the large wire leading rearward to the regulator's BATT terminal, where it belongs, along with the large wire leading forwards to the alternator's large output stud, as these 2 wires need to be connected to carry the charging current from the alternator to the battery. It is OK to use the BATT terminal as a junction point for the two wires, or just connect them together, and toss the regulator. Is there an "idiot light" charge indicator in the dash? If so, that's where the yellow wire is from. This can be connected to the alternator's #1 "switched excite" terminal, then jumper the alternator's #2 "voltage sense" terminal to the alternator's large output stud.
