Tod, Im NO fan of the 8 volt system. They are an oddball and the availability of batterys plus how high rated they are is questionable. If one insisit on converting voltages, they ought to go ahead n do it right and convert to the full standard 12 volt system and be done with it. An H ought to start fine with a good 6 volt system so if you wanna stay at 6 I recommend use of the biggest heaviest highest Amp/Hr or CCA battery you can buy that will physcally fit into the compartment. Also I recommend use of 00 gauge Battery n Starter n Ground cables for faster cranking. As far as electrical modifications from 8 back to 6 volts, if it has the simple 2 wire Cutout Relay System or the Voltage Regulator that only had a "current control" relay (2 coil VR) and no voltage controller I DOUBT ANY CHANGES WERE MADE OR ARE NOW NEEDED. However, if it had a Voltage Regulator that had the seperate Voltage Control Relay (often a 3 coil VR) it could have been tweaked up to better charge at 8 volts and may need readjusted. Although it would have been best (to extend point life) I doubt any external ballast resistance was ever added to the coil if its a coil ignition instead of a mag, but if so that would need removed if you go back to 6 volts. Basically, throw in a good heavy duty 6 volt battery and use at least 0 or better yet 00 Gauge Battery n Starter n Ground Cables and no electrical mods are necessary if its a Cutout Relay system and youre off to the races. In the event she cranks slow, I would have the starter tested. John T in Indiana

The Great Escape - by Dave Hollrah. It all began Monday with a little baling of second crop on the lake shore field, and as I drove out past my sister and her hubby's place, this small calling sound could be heard from the general direction of their manure pile. Out of the yard, over the cows and bale piles, through the dozer piles, poplars, and brush, out onto the ditch grade road, past the noisy 6.2 diesel engine pulling my well traveled Suburban along. Well it sure didn't take me long to figure out what it was because I alrea
