An H ought to start fine with a good 6 volt system so if you wanna stay at 6 I recommend use of the biggest heaviest highest Amp/Hr or CCA battery you can buy that will physcally fit into the compartment. Also I recommend use of 00 gauge Battery n Starter n Ground cables for faster cranking.

As far as electrical modifications from 8 back to 6 volts, if it has the simple 2 wire Cutout Relay System or the Voltage Regulator that only had a "current control" relay (2 coil VR) and no voltage controller I DOUBT ANY CHANGES WERE MADE OR ARE NOW NEEDED. However, if it had a Voltage Regulator that had the seperate Voltage Control Relay (often a 3 coil VR) it could have been tweaked up to better charge at 8 volts and may need readjusted.

Although it would have been best (to extend point life) I doubt any external ballast resistance was ever added to the coil if its a coil ignition instead of a mag, but if so that would need removed if you go back to 6 volts.

Basically, throw in a good heavy duty 6 volt battery and use at least 0 or better yet 00 Gauge Battery n Starter n Ground Cables and no electrical mods are necessary if its a Cutout Relay system and youre off to the races. In the event she cranks slow, I would have the starter tested.
