You are describing classic fuel starvation. Start by checking fuel flow to the carburetor from the fuel tank. It should be a steady stream as full as the pipe that continues for several minutes. If not, check the fuel tank cap vent, and the fuel line/strainer and whatever else between the carburetor and the tank. If you have a rubber line, check to make sure that it hasn’t deteriorated and collapsed. If you have good fuel flow to the carburetor, then check the jet settings, float settings, and make sure that the needle and seat valve are opening up allowing fuel flow. If this all checks out, check the fuel passages in the carburetor (some like to rebuild them at this point) to make sure that they aren’t blocked. Good luck
