Scotty, Tallperson is on the right track as well as others on the Angus and red Angus crosses. Black calves sell higher at the sales barns here in southern Ontario. I have red Angus cross cows and a few black Angus with a black Angus bull, nice calves, all black and no horns to mess with, calving has been fairly easy and my calves bring top dollar. Calves here sell better if they are vaccinated as well but the price is usually highest for the Angus cross calves, or black with white face(Hereford/Angus cross). Good luck with your choice, incidentally if you are like me I was going to have just a few maybe 7 or 8, up to twenty now and looking for more. The comment was made about boss cows, I have one in the barn now, a Charlais I took off of a friend's beeflot, she runs me every chance she gets, rams at my arm when I walk by, stands pawing the pen floor if I stop to check the calf, just a nasty animal, protecting her calf of course but I don't think I am going to keep her because of her temperment, you don't want cows like that....Mike in Exeter Ontario
