You might try running some penetrating fluid into the threads of where the jar screws on. Tip the unit upside down and soak the heck out of it. If you have a neoprene hammer handy, tap lightly on the outside of the metal thread portion but let the penetrant work and do its thing. It is just grown together from time, dirt, and rust.
