You do not have to take the water pump off to replace the broken sheave. You do have to take the bearings assembly off, but you can leave the pump housing that contains the impeller on the tractor. Remove the fan drive assembly(the thing with the springs on the front), the fan and the packing nut. Then remove the clamp nut that holds the bearing assembly. Then the bearings and all will slide off, but the water pump housing will still be mounted to the engine. The rear flange of the pulley is pinned to the bearing housing assembly. It's a chore to get the pin out and that rear part of the sheave off, but even more of a chore to get it back on and aligned so you can get the pin back in. I ended up taking mine to a shop to get help in getting it back on. I got the pin out on my own. The hole for the pin is not straight, so you will need to put a piece of 1/8 inch round stock in the hole to see where to position the sheave half when you put it back on. While you have tha thing apart, check the bearings for play and you might as well put in new grease seals and get some shaft packing too and add a ring or two of packing.
